I have been playing guitar, gigging, writing & recording songs for over 18 years. My interest in playing an instrument began when I was 11 years old. I originally wanted to play bass guitar but my father already had an extensive guitar collection in our house. He put an old Yamaha acoustic 6-string in my hands, showed me my first chords and I couldn't put it down.
One of my goals as an artist is to be constantly learning new and diverse types of music, while maintaining my own unique sound. Though much of my knowledge is self-taught, I have had many formal lessons throughout the years. I studied Jazz, Rock, Pop, Country, Flamenco, and Classical Guitar with several different professional instructors while in high school. These included:
Jim Boitnot (Elon University & COO of Notion Music),
Kyle Welch (GTCC & Blackbird Studio),
Mark Mazzatenta (UNCG),
and John Firesheets.
While earning my bachelors degree in Business Marketing at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, I was sharpening my abilities within UNCG’s competitive music department by taking as many music theory & history electives as possible.
At the age of 18 I started sharing my varied skills with other aspiring guitarists by giving private lessons. Not long after I was a regularly featured instructor at both the Greensboro Guitar Summer Workshop and NGFS's School or Rock Week summer programs.
I have worked with both 6 year old beginners and 56 year old advanced players alike. Many students have gone on to study music at some of the most prestigious music schools in the country, including Berklee School of Music (Boston), UNC-Chapel Hill & Appalachian State University.
For the past 10 years, I have played in a band with bassist AJ Sutton, of Slinky Face, and drummer Pete Lewis, of Lost in the Trees. Our focus was on developing a shared mental state-of-creation that allowed us to swiftly and accurately turn completed songs into improvisational forays at a moments notice. As a counter-balance to the improvisational nature of Slinky Face, I also performed cover gigs as a duo, known as The Vanguard, with my friend, Julian Sizemore. Eventually, I was later asked to accompany him for original shows with The Julian Sizemore Band. Julian is currently on tour full-time with The Mantras. With both groups I helped write, record and produce several full length albums.
Recently, I have been working with music producer, engineer, & mixer, Quan McNair of Track Force productions. We have done several commercial projects together. Involvement with these projects eventually led to composing and recording of film & commercial scores for Videographers; Aaron Aadland, of First Contact Productions, and Bonga Nkabanhle.
Currently I am giving private Guitar lessons, recording for other artists as a Studio Session Guitarist, writing a recording a full length solo album and managing SIP Sound Production.
THE ART WE MAKE IS A SPIRITUAL & EMOTIONAL REFLECTION,
WITH INTENT IN OUR WRITING WE CAN HEIGHTEN THE SPIRITUAL STATE OF A LISTENER.
